spreading beyond 19 reported cases by using methods developed for the polio

Children protected from polio still face other illnesses, and in Borno, malaria kills
more people than all other diseases combined. To prevent its spread, insecticide-
treated bed nets are often distributed for free during polio immunization events. In
2017, the World Health Organization, one of Rotary's partners in the GPEI,
organized a campaign to deliver antimalarial medicines to children in Borno using
polio eradication staff and infrastructure. It was the first time that antimalarial
medicines were delivered on a large scale alongside the polio vaccine, and the effort
reached 1.2 million children.

World Water Day is 22 March, a global reminder that clean, running water is not a
privilege - it is a human right. Yet, here in the United States, more than 2 million
Americans live without running water and proper sanitation at home. This crisis
remains hidden, largely absent from national discussions, but for those of us who
have experienced life without running water, it is a daily reality that shapes lives,
communities, and future opportunities.
